Surgical Procedures

Biopsies (skin/scalp)

A skin or scalp biopsy involves removing a small sample of tissue to diagnose conditions like rashes, infections, or possible skin cancer. It’s a quick procedure done under local anesthesia, and results help guide treatment. Types include shave, punch, or excisional biopsies depending on the depth needed. Mild discomfort or scabbing is common, but healing is usually quick with proper care.

Keloid Excisions

Keloid excision is the surgical removal of thick, raised scars that grow beyond the original wound site. While cutting out the keloid can improve appearance and relieve discomfort, there's a risk it may grow back—sometimes larger. To prevent recurrence, dermatologists often combine surgery with follow-up treatments like steroid injections, pressure therapy, or silicone sheets.

Steroid Injections

Steroid injections are used to reduce inflammation in conditions like keloids, acne cysts, or alopecia areata. A corticosteroid is injected directly into the lesion to flatten raised scars, shrink nodules, or promote hair regrowth. The procedure is quick with minimal discomfort, and multiple sessions may be needed for full effect.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy involves freezing abnormal skin tissue using liquid nitrogen. It’s commonly used to treat warts, actinic keratosis, skin tags, and some superficial skin cancers. The extreme cold destroys the targeted tissue, which then falls off as the skin heals. It’s a fast, in-office procedure with a stinging sensation and mild blistering that resolves in a few days.

Mole/Wart Removal

Mole and wart removal is done for cosmetic reasons or to eliminate potentially harmful growths. Methods include shaving, excision, cryotherapy, or laser removal, depending on the size and type of lesion. It’s a simple outpatient procedure done under local anesthesia, and healing typically takes a week or two with minimal scarring when properly cared for.
